I think it's for a volvo or an Evoque or something. The bogus one has a port which points forward (away from the cap). A hole in the radiator is also a probability, especially if it’s an old radiator or a radiator that’s been damaged in an accident. The correct res has an outlet which points towards the rear (the end with the fill cap). Coolant Reservoir Empty, Potential Causes 3: Hole In The Radiator. *** Somebody on amazon is selling the wrong reservoir for the LR2! It looks exactly like the right one but the coolant outlet on the bottom is pointed the wrong way! Ask me how I know. Then filled to max, did a test drive to get it hot and checked for leaks. I initially filled the res up to below the min, and started the car to verify the low warning worked. Rinse off the area when you're done, coolant won't evaporate and will mess up electrical stuff. Why is My Coolant Light On But Coolant is Full If the coolant light is on even though the coolant level is full, it could indicate an issue with the cooling system. Lube the small tube fittings with coolant so they slide in easy. Squeeze and slide the clamp down the hose, remove the hose. So it appears that a cylinder head housing has a leak which is another £215 This is an older thread, you may not receive a response, and could be reviving an old thread. Pull the reservoir up some more, you can move the bottom hose to allow more access. The coolant warning message has appeared again. Squeeze and disconnect the sensor wire on the bottom. Pull it up a lttle bit (gently) for access.Ĭarefully squeeze the two upper coolant tube fittings and disconnect them, move them aside gently. I previously noticed that my reverse lights were out and later found out that the coolant sensor and reverse lights were on the same fuse. The coolant was full and I cleaned out the tank to make sure the float wasnt stuck. I had the low coolant light come on in my sl2. Move the power steering and windshield washer reservoirs over to the drivers side as far as they go. I dont know if this applies to the vue but Ill tell you anyway. Just topped it up with a little distilled water, a little of that won't dilute the coolant too much. I didn't have any spare coolant, so I used a big syringe to suck out as much as I could so I didn't waste too much. Good news is the reservoir is pretty cheap, like under $40, and not too hard to replace. Might also be the electrical sensor itself, which can be easily replaced without draining the coolant reservoir.īut probably not, apparently the usual cause is the sensor float which is inside the reservoir and cannot be replaced separately. Not a bad idea to reach down and disconnect and re-connect the coolant sensor wire connector at the bottom of the reservior a few times, might just be corroded. This had been going on for a while, intermittent. Have also worked on a 95LX sedan and a 96LX wagon."Low Coolant Level" warning but no loss of coolant. All of them in use as daily drivers as the mood strikes us. Now I own a 91LX hatchback, 92LXwagon, 93LX hatchback, two 94LX wagons (both 5-speeds). Would be glad to know what year your Escort is, and how long you have had it. Have replaced a heater core and one radiator for that reason already. Ordered a tank for 85 shipped to the house. Never was low on fluid in the tank hot or cold. Filled it and message went off for about a week then back on. If the system uses more coolant than that - I go looking for the leak. Have been getting the low coolant message on and off for a few weeks. I have to add about 1/2 cup each year, which is likely just the water evaporation. Always with a cold engine, and use a twig to see how deep the coolant is in the recovery bottle. If a head gasket blows, the combustion gases from the cylinders will leak into the cooling system and push the coolant into the reservoir. The common reason for no coolant in radiator but the reservoir is full is a blown head gasket. I check my coolant fairly often, at the radiator and in the recovery bottle. Signs of No Coolant in the Radiator, but the Reservoir is Full. By the time I got home it turned off again. Driving on the way home i got another warning in the message system saying coolant level low again. So now I just unplug the connector at the cap - and the light on the dash stays out. Last night on my way home from work i started it up to a low coolant light, few minutes later it went away. And this happened on more than one of my five 2nd gen Escorts. I had cleaned those tips until they were shiny, and found that even with plenty of coolant in the bottle, the light on the cluster would come on from time to time. I find my coolant reservoirs are happy to stabilize with about 2" or 3" of coolant when cold, which I think is below the tips of the sensor. I think the sensor is a field effect transistor located in the top of the sensor - where the connector is.
